Job Position: Machine Operator

Location: Loves Park, IL 61111

Pay Rate: $16.00/hr - $20.00/hr BOE

Shift: 1st shift, Mon-Fri, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Description:

We are currently looking for a first shift gun drilling operator to join our team in Loves Park, IL. As a gun drilling operator, you’ll be working Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with additional overtime available on Saturdays.

A Gun Drilling Operator sets up, operates, and maintains specialized, deep-hole drilling machinery to create precise holes in metal or hard materials. Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, selecting tooling, monitoring speeds/feeds, and inspecting finished parts using precision tools (micrometers, calipers).

Machine Operator Duties and Responsibilities

• Machine Setup: Install drill bits, fixtures, and align workpieces according to engineering drawings.

• Operation: Run manual or CNC-controlled gun drilling machines to produce deep, high-precision holes.

• Monitoring and Quality Control: Check parts, monitor coolant flow, and measure finished workpieces to meet strict tolerances.

• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues like tool wear, alignment, and chip removal.

• Documentation: Record production data, part counts, and inspection results.

• Safety: Maintain a clean work area and follow safety protocols. ​

Machine Operator Qualifications and Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED; technical/vocational training is highly preferred.

• Experience: 2+ years of experience in gun drilling or deep hole boring preferred but not required.

• Skills: Strong blueprint reading, proficiency in, precision measuring tools, and knowledge of machining principles.

• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods and lift materials. ​
